Most standup meetings run long because people tell a story. You do not need a story. You need two lines: what moved, and what is in your way. Here is a version you can copy today. Change the words, keep the shape.
"Yesterday I finished the login form and opened a pull request. Today I am starting on the password reset page. No blockers." That is it. Two sentences. Everyone knows where you are, and nobody has to ask a follow-up question.
When you are stuck, say it plainly. "Yesterday I tried to fix the failing test, but I could not reproduce it locally. Today I will keep digging. I am blocked on database access — Sam, can we look at it after this?" Name the person. Ask for a time.
Leave out the parts nobody needs. Do not list every file you touched. Do not explain why the bug was hard. Do not apologise for slow progress. If something needs a real discussion, say "let's take it offline" and move on.
One habit makes this easy. Write your two lines before the call, not during it. Type them in the team chat as well. Then people who missed the call can still read them. Short updates are not lazy. They respect everyone's morning.
