Asking for Help Without Feeling Small

Scene: You have been stuck on a spreadsheet formula for almost an hour. A more experienced colleague, Ravi, is the office expert. You walk over during a quiet moment rather than suffer in silence.
You: Hi Ravi, do you have five minutes? I'm stuck on something and I think you'll spot it faster than I will.
Ravi: Sure, I've got a moment. What's going on?
You: I'm trying to sum sales by region, but my formula keeps returning zero. I've already checked the cell references and tried a SUMIF, but no luck. Could you take a quick look at what I'm missing?
Ravi: Ah, I see it. Your region column has extra spaces, so the text doesn't match. Wrap it in TRIM and the SUMIF will work. Here — try it.
You: That's it — it works now. I would never have caught the spaces. Thank you, that saves me a lot of trial and error.
Ravi: No problem at all. Everyone hits that one eventually. Feel free to ping me next time you're stuck — better to ask than to lose an afternoon.
You: I appreciate that. I'll write down the TRIM trick so I don't bother you with the same thing twice. Thanks again, Ravi — coffee's on me sometime.
